Doty's role in the eventual 2-1 Cedar Rapids win was getting four outs, setting down the only four batters he faced, according to The Cedar Rapids Gazette.
That performance was one of 37 outings Doty had for the single-A Reds in 1992. Those outings also came in his final season as a pro.
Doty's professional career began in 1989, taken by the Reds in the 19th round, out of Linn-Benton Community College in Oregon.
With the Reds, Doty started at rookie Billings. Serving as a reliever, Doty got into 18 games, picking up three wins and two saves. He also gave up 19 earned runs over 26 innings of work, for an ERA of 6.58.
For 1990, Doty split time between Billings and single-A Charleston. At Billings, he had a 4.24 ERA over eight outings. At Charleston, though, he gave up just four earned runs over 43.2 innings of work for a miniscule 0.82 ERA.
Doty returned to Charleston for all of 1991 and he continued to pitch well. In 47 outings that year, Doty posted a 1.94 ERA,
In his fourth season, Doty played at both Charleston and Cedar Rapids. At Cedar Rapids, he got those 37 outings. At Charleston, he got another eight. Between them, his ERA on the year landed at 4.91. It was also his final year as a pro.
