Elliott Gray, Good Week - 3057

Elliott Gray had a good week for the Clearwater Phillies in June 1991.

During that week, the Clearwater starter picked up two wins and went 15 innings, giving up eight hits and just a single earned run.

It was enough for Gray to get noticed by the Florida State League, Gray winning pitcher of the week honors, The Orlando Sentinel wrote.

Gray was in his third professional season that year with Clearwater. He went on to get one more season, his career ending short of the majors.

Gray's professional career began in 1989, taken by the Phillies in the 43rd round out of Wiley College in Texas. Gray's name has also been spelled Elliot Gray.

With the Phillies, Gray started at rookie Martinsville, getting 22 outings, five starts and a 4.29 ERA.

For 1990, Gray moved to single-A Spartanburg and short-season Batavia. Between them, he went 6-4 in 14 starts. He also posted a 2.47 ERA.

Gray moved to single-A Clearwater in 1991, getting 20 starts there. He also went 10-4, with a 2.45 ERA. In a June start, he went five innings, giving up three runs, two earned. Also in 1991, Gray got his first look at AA Reading. He got seven starts there, but went 0-2, with a 5.16 ERA.

Gray returned to Clearwater for 1992. He got 34 outings, 15 starts. He went 9-4, with a 4.49 ERA. It was his last season in pro ball.
