R.A. Neitzel, Rare Feat - 3073

The Reading Phillies picked up seven runs in this June 1992 win and R.A. Neitzel helped them to that mark with two hits.

The thing was that Reading, and Neitzel, did it all in one inning, the first inning, Neitzel picking up the rare feat of two hits in the same inning.

Neitzel achieved that feat in his third professional season. It was also his final professional season, Neitzel making it to AA, but no higher.

Neitzel's professional career began in 1990, taken by the Phillies in the 24th round, out of Oregon State University. Neitzel is sometimes referred to by his full name Roderick Neitzel.

At Oregon State, Neitzel picked up three hits in an early April game in 1990. That May, he won conference Player of the Week honors, hitting .407 and scoring 13 times over eight games. He ended up hitting .355 on the season.

With the Phillies, Neitzel started at short-season Batavia. There, he hit .266 over 62 games. He also knocked in 27, stealing 17 bases.

He moved to high-A Clearwater for 1991, hitting .260 there over 104 games, with 25 RBI and 32 stolen bases.

Neitzel moved up to AA Reading for 1992. He doubled and scored in a July 1992 game. On the season, though, he hit just .188. It was his final season as a pro.

Neitzel has gone on to return to Oregon and start a new career, one in radiology. Neitzel picked up a masters in healthcare administration at Portland State, after getting his undergraduate degree in venture management and business administration from Oregon State.

He is listed in 2013 as the administrative director at Salem Radiology Consultants in Salem, according to his company bio.
