"Fastballs, curveballs, splitters I'm seeing all the pitches well right now," Wolak told The Tennessean. "I really can't explain it. But the whole time during this streak I haven't gone up to the plate trying to hit a home run."
Wolak hit 14 home runs in all that year for AAA Nashville, the most he'd hit in his eight-season professional career. Despite his home run output, though, Wolak never got his call up to the majors. That eighth professional season also turned out to be his last as a pro.
Wolak's career began in 1988, taken by the White Sox in the ninth round of the draft out of South Hills High School in California.
Wolak began with the White Sox in the rookie Gulf Coast League. He hit .319 in 41 games. He moved to short-season Utica for 1989 and then to single-A South Bend for 1990. He went 1 for 4, scoring a run in an August 1990 contest.
Wolak played 1991 at high-A Sarasota. He went 3 for 4, with 3 RBI in a July game. He hit .291 overall.
Wolak made AA Birmingham for 46 games in 1992, playing the rest of the year at Sarasota. He then played all of 1993 at AA, hitting .305.
He arrived at AAA Nashville for 1994, hitting .256. He hit a two-run home run in a June game, one of his eight on the season. Wolak returned to Nashville for 1995. He hit .229 over 108 games, including knocking those 14 home runs, ending his career.
