The St. Lucie Mets won big on this night in May 1991 and Brian Davis helped them get there, according to The Palm Beach Post.

Davis picked up two hits and three RBI for St. Lucie as they beat Sarasota by a score of 8-2, The Post wrote.

Though he had a good night, Davis' five-season career neared its end. He was released by the end of the month. He never made AA.

Davis' career began in 1987, signed by the White Sox as a free agent out of Cleveland High School in Texas.

Davis started with the White Sox in the rookie Gulf Coast League. He hit .219 in 42 games. He then returned to the GCL and saw single-A Tampa in 1988. He hit .250 between them.

He played at short-season Utica and at single-A South Bend in 1989. He then moved to the Mets in the minor league draft.

Davis played 1990 at single-A Columbia. He hit .273 in 111 games and stole 28 bases. He then started 1991 at St. Lucie. He got into 22 games and hit .222 to end his career.

Passed over in the 1978 draft out of the University of Florida, Nick Belmonte tried to make his mark with independent teams of the Northwest League, The Salem Statesman Journal wrote . He played well enough for brief looks with the Brewers and Expos, but then found himself back with the independent Salem Senators for 1979, The Statesman Journal wrote . A one-time second round pick, Jeff Gay soon found himself in a backup role at single-A Quad City. By early 1988, his third season, he'd had enough and went home, The Moline Dispatch wrote later.  But, after speaking with others, Gay got to go back. He also soon got a new start in the organization, at single-A co-op Reno, The Dispatch wrote . "I have to tell you, I had the best time I've ever had out there," Gay told The Dispatch at the start of 1990. "I had a good time and it was a learning experience. I'm kind of glad I went there." At age 23, when he started in pro ball, Darius Gash knew he'd gotten a late start, he told The Waterloo Courier in his second season. But he also knew he could still play, he told The Courier in August 1991 at age 24. "I think you're only as old as you make yourself and I think I have a lot left," Gash told The Courier . Jac Gelb had a good first pro season at rookie Wytheville in 1989. He went 9-4, with a 3.42 ERA over 15 starts. To start 1990, Gelb told The Orlando Sentinel he hoped to replicate that success. "I don't really think I could have had a better season," Gelb told The Sentinel . "I'd like to have that kind of success again." Gelb played that upcoming season between single-A Peoria and short-season Geneva. However, he couldn't replicate that early success. That second pro season turned out to be his last pro season. One of Chris George 's 1992 baseball cards talked up his potential in the major leagues. He'd seen two outings with the Brewers in Milwaukee the previous year and he looked to return in 1992. "Tough and competitive, Chris just might be a solid addition to the Brewers bullpen in 1992,' the card read . By the time that card came out, though, George's major league career was over. He played that year at AAA and returned for one more after that, but those two appearances in 1991 proved the extent of his big league career.
