Wahconah High School took home the win in this May 1987 and Bill Bird helped seal the victory, The Berkshire Eagle wrote.
Bird stepped to the plate in the seventh inning and smacked a home run to help his Wahconah team to an 8-2 win, The Eagle wrote.
Bird went on a couple years to help out at another Wahconah, with the Pittsfield Mets at Wahconah Field. His time with the Pittsfield Mets is recorded on a card included in the team's 1990 Pucko card set.
Bird, 19 at the time, shared the card with fellow teen Dave Tarjick on a card titled "The Clubhouse Boys."
The two are pictured in Mets shirts and pants along with Pittsfield Hats. Their exact duties in the clubhouse aren't outlined, but the cards did give brief information about both.
Bird was described on the card back as 19 and a then-recent graduate of Wahconah High School. He was also described as a hockey and baseball player.
On the ice, Bird is recorded as picking up a goal and an assist in a February 1989 game. He then scored two goals in a January 1990 game.
After his stint with the Pittsfield Mets, Bird appears to have continued with hockey, picking up a shutout as a goalie in a local game in November 1991. Later, he even appears to have taken up softball, as a Bill Bird is credited as playing in the Berkshire County Men's Slow Pitch League in 1997.
In 2012, a Bill Bird received a Berkshire Hero Award for his work coordinating game officials in a local hockey tournament over 15 years.
