Joe Arrendondo turned in one of the top hitting performances of the night for the Pittsfield Mets in this July 1991 game and he and a teammate drew praise from team manager Jim Thrift, according to The Berkshire Eagle.
"I thought Tolliver and Arrendondo both had some good at-bats with runners in scoring position," Thrift told The Eagle.
Arrendondo hit two doubles in the game and knocked in three in that game, a performance he gave in his second season as a pro. It also came in his final pro season. He played both campaigns at short-season Pittsfield.
Arrendondo's brief career began in 1990, taken by the Mets the previous year in the 37th round of the draft of Cerritos College in California.
Arrendondo started at Pittsfield. Going into that season, Pittsfield manager Jim Eschen spoke to The Eagle about Arrendondo as he assessed the new team. "We still have to look at Arrendondo in a game situation," Eschen told The Eagle.
He got into 58 games and hit .276. He knocked in 12. He hit a single, double and triple in a late-season game.
He then returned to Pittsfield for 1991. He got into 42 games there and hit .256. He knocked in a run on a single in a June game. That season marked his last as a pro.
