Quad City Angels starter Roberto Castillo pitched into the sixth inning in this June 1990 game, striking out seven, including the first four batters he faced, The Rock Island Argus wrote.
The outing was enough to earn praise from his manager Don Long, according to The Argus.
"Roberto pitched great," Long told The Argus. "He had good velocity and he was down in the strike zone. I couldn't ask for much more."
While Castillo pitched well in that game, he couldn't keep it up. Injuries shortened his season and kept him out the next. He returned for one more campaign in 1992, his third overall. He topped out at single-A.
Castillo's career began in 1989, signed by the Angels out of his native Dominican Republic. Castillo was also credited as being from the Dominican Republic.
Castillo started with the Angels in the rookie Arizona League. He went 4-3, with a 3.10 ERA in 16 games, one start.
He moved to single-A Quad City for 1990. He went six innings, giving up a single-run in a May win. By mid-August, though, he'd been slowed by a shoulder issue.
Castillo got 17 outings, 11 starts, in all. He went 3-6, with a 2.40 ERA. He also got to come back in September, at least to celebrate, as he got photographed celebrating Quad City's Midwest League title win with his teammates.
Castillo's injury issues, however, continued into 1991 as he started the year on the disabled list and then isn't credited as playing at all due to an arm injury.
He then returned for 1992, getting back to Quad City by June, after continuing rehab in Arizona. He got into 18 games, starting three. He went 2-1, with a 3.35 ERA, ending his career with the Angels.
He's then later credited as playing in Mexico, with Saltillo, in 1994. He also played in the Venezuelan Winter League, getting cards there in 1993-1994, 1994-1995 and 1995-1996.
