Scott Powers' season at AA New Britain hadn't gone as he'd hoped - he was the No. 9 hitter was hitting .214 by late August, The Hartford Courant wrote.

But in this game, Powers powered a bases-loaded triple. He also had a good at bat later, The Courant wrote.

"I figured hey, I'm the ninth hitter," Powers told The Courant afterward of his triple at bat. "They're going to come right at me. They're not going to dillydally."

That season marked Powers' fifth as a pro and first at AA. It also marked his last. Powers topped out there at AA.

Powers' career began in 1987, taken by the Red Sox in the fourth round of the draft out of Brandeis University.

Powers started with the Red Sox at short-season Elmira. He hit .235 in 58 games. He then moved to single-A Lynchburg for 1988. He hit .172 there in 90 games.

He returned to Lynchburg for 91 games in 1989, then again at high-A Lynchburg in 1990 He hit .238 in 122 games in 1990. Powers hit a bases-loaded single in a June 1990 game.

Powers then made AA New Britain for 1990. He got into 87 games and hit .208 to end his career.
