The Greenville Braves' Johnny Cuevas hadn't hit a home run on the season by this August 1991, but he looked for his pitch in this contest and he got it, The Greenville News wrote.

With that, he hit a two-run home run, The News wrote.

"I've been looking for the fastball every first pitch, and he threw a hard one on the inside corner," Cuevas told The News. "I turned on it and hit it down the left-field line."

Cuevas hit that home run in his ninth season as a pro. He went on to see one more - for 10 pro campaigns in all. He briefly topped out at AAA.

Cuevas' career began in 1983, signed by the Braves as a free agent out of his native Dominican Republic.

Cuevas started with the Braves in the rookie Gulf Coast League. He saw 22 games that first year. He then returned for 1984 and saw 42 more.

He arrived at single-A Sumter for 1985. he saw 77 games and hit .192. Going into that season, The Sumter Item wrote he was thought to have the "strongest throwing arm" in the organization.

Cuevas returned to Sumter for 1986 and then saw single-A Charleston and Durham for 1987. For 1988, he returned to Sumter. he saw 95 games and hit .252.

To start that season at Sumter, Cuevas spoke to The Item about his return, instead of going higher.

"It feels good to be back in Sumter," Cuevas told The Item then. "I got sent back to Sumter, but I enjoy coming back. I just want to play some baseball. But I would rather be playing somewhere else (higher in the organization)."

Cuevas played 1989 between single-A Burlington and Durham. He returned to Durham at high-A for 1990.

He arrived at AA Greenville for 1991. He saw 68 games and hit .190. He returned to Durham for 34 games in 1992. He also saw three games at AAA Richmond that year. He went 0 for 6. That season proved his last as a pro.
