The Kinston Indians came away with the win this night in April 1991 against Salem, along with a brawl. At the brawl's center, were allegations against Kinston's Paulino Tena, The Roanoke Times wrote.
After allegations of a dirty slide in a previous game, Salem threw behind Tena multiple times, The Times wrote.
"I thought (Tena) was playing dirty," Salem manager Stan Cliburn told The Times afterward, "and we let him know about it."
Regardless of how Tena played in that previous game, he went on to see a career that spanned four seasons. He topped out at high-A.
Tena's career began in 1989, signed by the Rangers as a free agent out of his native Dominican Republic. Tena was also credited as Jose Tena.
Tena started with the Rangers in the rookie Gulf Coast League. He saw 59 games and hit .271.
He then moved to the Indians in the Rule 5 draft. He played 1990 at short-season Watertown. He hit .246 in 73 games.
Tena then moved to high-A Kinston for 1991. He hit .252 in 127 games there. Tena returned to the field for 1992, briefly. He saw 10 games at independent Fort Myers to end his career.
