After three seasons in the minors, Dave Voit got to go overseas, to Australia, The Lexington Herald-Leader wrote.
An old coach from summer league had called him up and invited him to go, he told The Herald-Leader.
"He had kept up with me through the minor leagues and saw that I had good records and wanted me to come down and pitch for him," Voit told The Herald-Leader.
When Voit returned, he resumed playing in the minors. But that return proved brief. His fourth season turned out to be his last. He topped out at high-A.
Voit's career began in 1988, taken by the Brewers in the 19th round of the draft out of the University of Kentucky.
At Kentucky, Voit picked up a relief win in the first game of an April 1988 double header and a save in the second game, The Herald-Leader wrote.
"I didn't feel too hot the first game," Voit told The Herald-Leader then, "but the second game I felt like I had more pop in my fastball."
Voit started with the Brewers at single-A Beloit and rookie Helena. He went 5-4 over 23 relief outings, with a 1.94 ERA and three saves. He went two innings of relief for an August relief win.
Voit played with both teams again in 1989. He saw 29 appearances at Helena and four at Beloit. He ended with a 3.72 ERA and 11 saves.
Voit moved to short-season co-op Erie for 1990. He went 5-6 over 41 relief appearances, with a 1.97 ERA. For 1991, he returned with high-A co-op Reno. He saw eight appearances there to end his career.
Voit passed away in May 2020 at the age of 54.
