Miami Miracle hurler Charlie Rogers had a big night this game in August 1990, striking out 20 Baseball City batters to tie the Florida State League record, The Orlando Sentinel wrote.

He did so after playing the outfield in college the previous year, The Sentinel wrote.

"My fastball was really working well," Rogers told The Sentinel. I only threw 20 breaking balls all night, and most of them were hard sliders."

That season marked Rogers' first as a pro. He went on to see five more. He topped out at AAA.

Rogers' career began that year, taken by independent high-A Miami in the 18th round of the draft out of the University of North Alabama.

With Miami in 1990, Rogers saw 14 outings, 10 starts. He went 2-5, with a 2.63 ERA. He struck out 64 total batters. He returned to Miami for 1991 and saw 22 outings, 20 starts. He went 6-7, with a 4.02 ERA.

For 1992, he joined the affiliated ranks with Milwaukee at high-A Stockton. He saw 54 relief appearances, with a 2.81 ERA and recorded 17 saves.

He moved up to AA El Paso for 1993. In another 48 mostly relief games, he recorded a 1.74 ERA and 23 saves.

"It's been a very satisfying year," Rogers told The El Paso Herald-Post late that August.

Rogers then made AAA New Orleans for 1994. He saw 21 relief appearances, with a 6.35 ERA.

After not seeing the field in 1995, he returned in 1996 at independent Tennessee. He got 12 starts , with a 5.17 ERA to end his career.

Rogers soon settled in Huntsville, Ala., as a trainer, The Cullman Times wrote in 2016 upon his induction into the local sports hall of fame.

"You have a window and then the window closes," Rogers told The Times then of his career's end. "I had managers crying when they had to release me because I was a guy that always wanted the ball. I took a lot of pride in wanting the baseball and wanting the game on my shoulders."
