The opposing starter cruised into the sixth inning of this June 1990 Elizabethton Twins contest, but that's when Elizabethton's Tom Gavin got him, The Johnson City Press wrote.
Gavin knocked a two-run single to help send Elizabethton on to a 3-1 win, The Press wrote.
"I think he was getting tired," Gavin told The Press afterward of the starter. "He hung a curveball, and I just took advantage of it. He pitched a good game, though."
That season marked Gavin's first as a pro. He went on to see just one more. He topped out at high-A.
Gavin's career began that year, taken by the Twins in the 24th round of the draft out of Ryder University in New Jersey.
Gavin started with the Twins at Elizabethton. He picked up another two-run single in a July game, and a two-run home run in an August game.
Overall, Gavin hit .329 in 59 games for Elizabethton. He also hit four home runs and knocked in 42.
Gavin moved to high-A Visalia for 1991. He saw 43 games that year and hit .213 to end his career.
