"I spent the morning at the tee today," Rodriguez told The Times-News then. "I'm having to adapt to wood. It's a different approach. I'm having to get my swing back. That's what we do to adjust - go to the tee and work."
Rodriguez spoke then after a game where he knocked in five runs on three hits, The Times-News wrote.
Rodriguez went on to play in two pro seasons, that year and the next. He topped out at single-A.
Rodriguez' career began that year in 1990, taken by the Cardinals in the 40th round of the draft out of U.S. International University.
Rodriguez started with the Cardinals at rookie Johnson City. He saw 68 games and hit .288, with eight home runs.
That July, he spoke with The Johnson City Press about getting drafted late and after hitting three home runs, one a game-winning grand slam, in the span of a week.
"I'm just pleased I can play pro ball," Rodriguez told The Press of his draft position. To me it doesn't matter where you get drafted. I just want to play good and get a chance to move up."
Rodriguez moved up to single-A Springfield for 1991. He got into 79 games and hit .283. That season proved his last as a pro.
