Johnson City designated hitter Jerry Davis ripped a ninth-inning double and scored the winning run in this June 1990 game, The Johnson City Press wrote.

Afterward, Davis praised his teammates and his manager to The Press.

"We finally put it together out there," Davis told The Press. "I got a little down, but DJ (manager mark DeJohn) told me to keep my head up, and I did."

Davis hit that double in his third season as a pro. It also proved his last. He played all three seasons in rookie ball.

Davis' career began in 1988, taken by the Cardinals in the eighth round of the draft out of Lincoln High School in San Diego.

Davis started with the Cardinals at rookie Johnson City. He picked up three hits in a July game. Overall, he hit just .180 in 35 games.

Davis moved to the rookie Arizona League for 1989. He saw 25 games there and hit .125.

He then returned to Johnson City for 1990. He got into 39 games and hit just .112 to end his career.
