The Johnson City Cardinal bats came through late in this August 1991 game and reliever Manuel Rodriguez proved the beneficiary, according to The Johnson City Press.

Rodriguez went 1.2 innings while not allowing a hit as he picked up the win in relief, The Press wrote.

Rodriguez picked up that win in his third pro season. That season also proved his last. He played all three seasons in rookie ball.

Rodriguez' career began in 1990, taken by the Cardinals in the 33rd round of the draft out of Puerto Rico.

Rodriguez started with the Cardinals in the rookie Arizona League. He got into 17 games, starting four and went 2-3, with a 6.29 ERA.

He moved to rookie Johnson City for 1990. He struck out two in relief in an August game. In another August outing, Rodriguez picked up the win among five pitchers who took the mound.

Overall, Rodriguez went 2-1, with a 7.83 ERA in 19 outings, three starts.

Rodriguez returned to Johnson City for 1991. He ended with 13 relief outings, that one win and a 4.19 ERA. That season marked his last as a pro.
