Taken by the Cardinals late in the previous draft, Sean Page waited until the next to sign, The Tennessean wrote.
In the meantime, he continued playing for Volunteer State Community College and led all junior college players in home runs and RBIs, The Tennessean wrote.
"I figure this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, so I ought to go ahead and sign," Page told The Tennessean after signing in May 1990. "You don't get a second chance like this. This is the best opportunity for me."
Page ultimately took his opportunity to two pro seasons. He topped out at single-A.
Page's career began that year in 1990, taken by the Cardinals in the 54th round of the previous year's draft out of Volunteer State.
Page started with the Cardinals at rookie Johnson City. He picked up an early double to start a rally in a June game. He hit a home run to lead off an inning in early July. He hit another home run in an August game.
Overall, Page saw 49 games for Johnson City in 1990. He hit .244, with six home runs.
He then moved to single-A Savannah for 1991. He saw 26 games there and hit .123 to end his career.
