New Johnson City Cardinals starter Jose Lopez impressed early on in 1990, according to The Kingsport Times-News.

His new manager Mark DeJohn even described Lopez to The Times-News as having a "major league arm."

"Jose still has a lot to learn," DeJohn told The Times-News, "but he has a very good arm."

That season marked Lopez' first season as a pro. He went on to see just two more. He topped out at single-A.

Lopez' career began that year in 1990, signed by the Cardinals as a free agent out of his native Dominican Republic.

Lopez started with the Cardinals at rookie Johnson City. He went 5-5 over 14 starts, with a 2.76 ERA. He picked up one of his wins in an early July at Princeton.

He moved to single-A Savannah for 1991. He went 2-6 there, with a 4.16 ERA over 21 outings, 13 starts.

Lopez then returned to Johnson City for 1992. He saw 17 outings there, one start. He went 1-0, with a 3.22 ERA. He picked up his win in a June outing where he went 1.2 innings of relief. That season marked his last as a pro.
