Kevin Carpenter suffered broken jaw, played one season

Johnson City catcher Kevin Carpenter lost some time in 1990 due to injury, according to The Johnson City Press.

The catcher lost it after suffering what The Press described as a broken jaw when he was hit in the face by a pitch late that July.

Carpenter did return to the field that year. But his return proved brief. That season, his first as a pro, proved his only season as a pro

Carpenter's career began that June in 1990, taken by the Cardinals in the 23rd round of the draft out of West Virginia University.

Carpenter started with the Cardinals in the rookie Arizona League. He saw 10 games there and hit .182.

He then joined rookie Johnson City by early July. He returned from his jaw injury by late August, when he hit a double for his team's only extra base hit on the night.

Overall, Carpenter got into 23 games at Johnson City and hit .153 to end his career.
